Let’s skip the fluff… if you work in corporate and actually want to get things done, there are two simple changes you can make that will instantly boost your focus, efficiency, and sanity.

🚫 1. Turn Off All Notifications

The Outlook desktop pop-up in the bottom right? Off.

The Teams or Slack pings? Off.

Your mobile app notifications? Off.

The only pop-up notifications you should have are for meetings starting in the next 5–15 minutes.

Everything else needs to go. Every time you glance at a pop-up or preview a message, you break your focus and those tiny distractions add up over days and weeks.

This isn’t about ignoring people; it’s about being intentional and in control of your attention.

You still need to stay on top of emails and instant messages, but on your schedule, not theirs.

You decide when to check messages and when to respond.

Your team might think your replies are slower, but your output will be stronger and your mind much clearer.

🕒 2. Schedule Emails & Instant Messages for Non-Urgent Matters

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned: sometimes I’m just too fast for my own good. The Faster you reply the faster you get one.

Yes, some situations require an immediate reply but let’s be honest, most don’t.

If you’re working late or after hours, use scheduled send to deliver messages the next morning during business hours (outlook, teams, slack all have this feature).

It shows respect for your team’s time and avoids creating unnecessary pressure or noise after hours.

✅ Quick Productivity Checklist

Here’s your simple two-step system to take control of your workday:

  • Turn off all notifications (except nearing meeting reminders)
  • Check email and chat on your time, not constantly.
  • Batch respond to messages a few times per day.
  • Schedule non-urgent emails for business hours.
  • Protect your focus as it’s your most valuable asset.

Bottom line:

These two habits alone have made me more productive, calm, and intentional than any fancy time lapse management tool ever could. Try them for a week and see the difference.
